How to Prepare Your House for a Puppy

Bringing home a puppy is a very exciting time for the family. But your house and family members will need proper prep before they are ready for the puppy. This may seem like something that you can skip, but trust us when we say that you’ll be grateful to have done this once your little bundle of joy comes home.

The first step is to make a checklist of all necessary things to buy before the puppy gets home. Some common items include the following:

  • Bowls for water and food
  • Washable bedding
  • Toys, natural dog treats (buy healthy dog treats here)
  • Puppy leash and collar
  • Grooming kits and tools like dog shampoo, brushes etc
  • Puppy supplements and food
  • Instructionals and anything else that your vet advices

The next step is to prepare your home so that its safe for the puppy. There can be several hazards because of which the puppy can get injured. Since they are essentially small children, they are extremely curious, untrained and will want to chew and smell everything. Therefore, ‘puppy-proofing’ is extremely important. This includes covering all exposed wires and removing stray wires on the floor, taking care that sharp objects are not within the puppy’s reach, removing hanging objects or shortening them (like curtains etc), getting rid of poisonous plants and eatables. Also remember to not leave important things like books and papers lying around as the puppy will make it a point to chew it. In case the puppy does get injured, keep our Topicure spray handy as it works on all minor injuries and wounds. It’s a natural pet product made with herb extractions and is also completely lick safe. The last thing you need to do is prepare the family, especially if there are small children present. They have to be made aware that puppies can bite and that they must not be fed small objects. Make a routine with the puppy’s necessities in mind. Also make appointments with the vet and get your pup registered.
